You will need

Dough

  • all-purpose flour — 2 cups (250 g)
  • baking powder — 2 tsp
  • salt — ½ tsp
  • sugar — 1 tsp
  • vegetable oil — 2 tbsp
  • warm water — about ⅔ cup (150 ml)

Also

  • precooked sausages or hot dogs — 6
  • green sticks about 3 feet (1 m) long (only where cutting is allowed) or metal roasting forks — 6
  • a small folding knife

Allergens: wheat, check the sausage label

How to make it

  1. Mix the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Add the oil and water and knead a soft dough. Let it rest under a towel for 20 minutes.
  2. with a grown-up Cut sticks only where it’s allowed — one from each bush. Sharpen the tip with a small knife: sitting down, carving away from you, your other paw behind the blade.
  3. Divide the dough into 6 pieces, roll each into a long rope, and wind it around the tip of a stick in a spiral.
  4. with a grown-up Bake over the embers, not in the flames, slowly turning the stick, for 8–10 minutes, until the bread is golden.
  5. with a grown-up When the bread is off, put a precooked sausage on the stick tip and hold it over the embers for 3–5 minutes, turning, until it’s hot all the way through.
  6. Before eating, blow on it and let it cool a little — everything off the fire is very hot!
